Holiday Giving

Are you tired of getting lotions, candles, and prepackaged baked goods for the Holidays? Do you still have last year's brandied apple fruitcake tucked away in a back cabinet somewhere and suspect that your friends and family may too?

This Holiday Season, give the meaningful gift of education for an orphan in Western Kenya, the gift of justice for victims of sex- and gender-based violence, and/or the gift of an open forum for women to discuss health issues that concern them. For less than the price of a pair of snow boots, you can open up endless possibilities for at-risk women and children for a better future. Click here

Electronics Drive

Looking to replace your old computer for a new one? Have one gathering dust in some box somewhere?

Help us start up a small internet café in Shinyalu, Western Kenya. The internet café will help our Sex and Gender Based Violence Prevention program to become self-sustaining. The program provides medical and legal aid to victims at no-cost and raises awareness in local communities. Additionally, the internet café will open new opportunities for local villagers to connect with people and ideas from around the world and help with professional development.

NEW YORK SUMMER FUNDRAISER
A huge Thank You to all those of you who supported the Community Alliance Network's silent auction of Edward Orato’s artwork on June 19th. The event was a huge success and we raised $1700.00 to go towards aiding several sustainable projects in Kenya. The money raised will be used in implementing rain water harvesting systems, feeding programs, medical care, children's education, and women's empowerment programs among others.

We are also extremely proud to have been able to highlight and support Edward’s fantastic talent. We had the pleasure of meeting Edward and seeing his amazing work last summer at the Soap Stone Market in Kisumu, Kenya. The auction featured 9 of his pieces, with all proceeds above the minimum bid price going to the Charity. Edward describes the evolution of his painting style as,

"I saw myself being captivated by the beauty and intensity of the light in Kisumu; in addition to the daily activities of the people from the region. I try to depict these activities in most of my paintings, though occasionally I do explore the field of abstract and fantasy through expressionism to try and convey my thoughts and feelings at a given time."

"In my advancement as an artist I somehow discovered the beauty of lines, and I have never wanted to lose my lines. I feel they are part of the painting process, and though most artists prefer them NOT to be seen, I decided to sketch/draw my subject first with bold lines and thereafter apply colours."

On behalf of the Community Alliance Network, Thank you all!

Sincerely,

Kassidy Loy, Eileen Meehan, & Santiago Perez
