Become a Volunteer Abroad

The Community Alliance Network was born from the time its directors spent as volunteers abroad. The personal growth and cultural exchange the opportunity afforded us has left us keen to provide the same opportunity to others. For that reason we provide anyone wishing to make a meaningful contribution with the security of connecting them to programs under which we ourselves have volunteered, and which gave us wonderful experience and made us want to stay involved.

The Community Alliance Network is a volunteer organization, dedicated to raising funds to support our partner community based organizations in Kenya. Because the projects we support are chosen, implemented and managed by local organizations, the role of our Volunteer Abroad program is to connect them with the organization which would be best suited to their skills and interests. All the volunteer opportunities we offer are in Kenya.

» Mama na Dada

Volunteer Opportunities: Teaching (age 3-9), Child Care.

This community centre runs a holistic child care program for children orphaned by HIV and malaria. Volunteers teach the children (aged two to six) at the daycare centre, help out in the kitchen, walk the children home and take them to the clinic. A wonderful experience for those seeking to become integrated into their host community.

» Kenyan Alliance for Rural Empowerment

Volunteer Opportunities: Legal, Women's Health Education.

Volunteers are sought for the two programs we run in partnership with KARE, The Gender and Sex Based Violence Prevention Program and Women's Health Education Program (read more here (hyperlink to project pages for each project). Volunteers with experience in the areas of law and women's health are are preferred, though not required to make a meaningful contribution. Depending on their background and interests, volunteers will work directly on legal cases, give seminars on women's health and assist with project management and evaluation.

» Kanyala Little Stars

Volunteer Opportunities: Teaching (age 7-13)

Kanyala is based on Mbita Island, on Lake Victoria and runs a community school with a volunteer teaching program. The organization also has its own tree-planting facility and small farm that's used to grow crops to feed the kids at the school, and volunteers are welcome to participate on either of these activities. Accommodations are rudimentary, and geared towards those wishing to do service and do not require much in the way of creature comforts.
If interested, please contact us and we will connect you with these community based organizations, who can provide you with more information regarding accommodations, costs, lifestyle etc.
